The Paul Nelson Farm compound in South Dakota is simply one of the best lodge experiences available anywhere in the world. Trek does not offer many destinations in the United States, so you know that the few we do offer are top-notch and Paul Nelson Farm is no exception. The pheasants are very high-volume, and you have farm’s collection of dogs and Beretta Silver Pigeon shotguns at your disposal. The lodge itself is meticulously designed and packed with more amenities than you can dream of.

This South Dakota Pheasant hunting trip is for five days and four nights, featuring three full days of shooting. The trip will begin when you arrive in Pierre, the capital of South Dakota. A Trek representative will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the lodge, located about an hour away from Pierre. The first day is spent getting settled in and maybe a little sporting clay shooting to get the edge off. The following three days will be full days of shooting, with a daily 5 birds per person bag limit of pheasants included in the package, while extra birds are available on the farm for an additional per bird cost.

If you travel for a South Dakota Pheasant hunt, then you know your main target species is the pheasant. It just so happens that the Paul Nelson Farm is home to veritable clouds of pheasant. The clouds will amaze those who have never seen volume of pheasant like this before. The countryside is gentle, rolling prairie, with fields and sky as far as the eye can see. You’ll walk across cornfields, native grass rangeland, and millet/forage sorghum strips to flush out birds.

The volume of Pheasant is not the only thing that makes the Paul Nelson Farm experience superior. The dog work is excellent here, as the farm features Pointers, Flushers and Retrievers. Also available at no extra charge is the farm’s collection of Beretta Silver Pigeon O/Us, making your shooting experience a memorable one.

There are three distinct lodges at Paul Nelson Farm, using a footprint of over 45,000 square feet. Every single room in all 3 lodges is a single room. The Main Lodge was initially built in 1992 and through years of tremendous growth, Nelson has continued to expand the Main Lodge to 12 rooms and include a spectacular African room that could very well be the best lounge in South Dakota. In 2001, Paul added the Buffalo Suites of eight large, tastefully decorated suites. In 2006, the wonderfully deluxe King Lodge of 15 rooms was built.

Meals are served buffet-style and taken in the Main Lodge, only a sand wedge away from both the King Lodge and Buffalo Suites. All wines served are rated 90+. Regardless of which of the three lodges you choose to stay in at PNF, all the rooms are large with king beds, first rate linens, down comforters and beautifully adorned with Western and Native American style décor. Every amenity you can think of is present in the lodges, as there are snacks on every table, a top shelf bar at every turn and an HD TV on the well positioned river-rock walls. There are fireplaces, fire pits, outdoor heaters, cigar rooms, poker tables, Jacuzzis, exercise room and more.
